Hundreds of pages ago a young kid from Southern California came to New York to stay with an East Coast surf legend. During his introduction to the East End… our paths crossed and the rest were words in chapters to follow. So much came from this, but certainly one of the most poignant and impactful moments was being introduced and welcomed into Donald Takayama‘s world and culture. This is a surfboard that Donald made for me for one of my birthdays in my early 30s, close to 30 years ago. As I live in the expansive skies and hills of the southwest Berkshire’s now, distant from the ocean… images of magic that he produced is enough to give me proof of life.
