They are putting their complete trust in me, that I will make them look their best possible, and I am at their mercy. I can only photograph that which is offered. One of the most extraordinary women that I’ve been lucky enough to photograph over the years, and who I now consider a great friend, is @realrachelroberts Rachel is a miracle in front of a lens. She has that uncanny ability to look right through that piece of glass and interact with me as if we’re sitting there having a great conversation. She is 1000% unselfconscious. She moves with a luxury and beauty that only great confidence can bring. And she is bursting with joy, which is pretty darn fun to capture too. So thank you Rachel, for all the great pictures- and let’s do some more! I’ve always believed that the most compelling portraits happen in the quiet spaces between direction and discovery. This image, created with Rachel on a late afternoon in Malibu, was born from that philosophy. As the sun slipped lower on the horizon, bands of light began to sweep across her face, revealing just enough while leaving the rest to the imagination. Those are the moments I chase—the ones that feel less like photographs and more like fragments of a memory, where light becomes both the subject and the storyteller.
