As I do, I have been reflecting on this last year’s journey. Transformation is not always easy. It was to date, one of my hardest years yet besides losing my father 2 years ago. The tests and stripping has been fast and furious and at times has me unable to catch my breath. I know the other side will be beautiful, but truthfully not quite there yet. I felt it was important to post about this , because there’s no one I’ve talked to this year that has not had a profound event happen to them and I want you to know you are not alone. One of the elements of social media that I struggle with is that, though I love community, without the in person, it can feel like a silo. I also recognize that that is how I have been using social… And I’m hoping over this next year to show up here a little bit more and to share about myself. This is a process that I’ve been diving into through my substack Leilani‘s b-roll and it has felt cathartic. I hadn’t realized before how much time Willie spends in Hawaii. When I heard Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain again, all I could hear was the sounds of the guitars the aunties and unclest played when I danced with my Hula Hālau at home in Hawaii. It is such a beautiful melody. I thought it deserved its own hula dance and so I choreographed this and filmed it in 2022. A couple weeks later I lost one of my childhood friends who had the most piercing blue eyes. It suddenly felt too personal and too emotional to put out to share…but now all these years later it is just a sweet reminder of him and all the loved ones whom have gone before. 🌺💫 Dress by @wendynichol
